To kick off the academic year of 2022/23, my colleagues and I decided to take a group of students from our Design & Territory masters course to Bilbao.
This was no ordinary tourism. We went there to dissect the city, as part of our metropolis observatory. From south to north, from west to east, we walked the streets to understand how Bilbao has transformed from a steel city to a titanium city to a tourist city. We met ordinary citizens, community groups and the city councillor responsible for mobility and transport.
Back at school, we gave ourselves one week to create an exhibition based on our experience. Inspired by an object that I had seen in the steel-making industrial zone, I made this little homage to Dan Graham, Sol LeWitt, Ettore Sottsass, Ben Kelly and all the other artists and designers that had laid the foundations for me as an artist.
