In 2014, I was invited by Didier Lamandé to conceive an exhibition in «two halves» at the Galerie du Dourven, Côtes d’Armor. The gallery is situated in the middle of a large park. I wanted to imagine my exhibition as a crossroads for all the people who used the park. One of the groups of people that I had identified were the swimmers and sunbathers. Effectively, a steep path led down through some dense shrubland to a small beach and then the sea. It was obvious to me that during a long summer’s day quite a few folk would get caught short and certain would feel the need to deposit a small quantity of unwanted physical matter behind one of the bushes. I decided to offer these poor people another option. I set about converting Rietveld’s design for the «Highback» or «Hoge Stoel» chair into chamber pot.
A couple of weeks later I was back at the Itinéraires Bis workshop for another intensive woodworking session with Jean-Luc Rault.
The finished work was installed in the Galerie du Dourven, on the disused «Fish Hotel», which had become a plinth for many new works that had made or chosen for the second installment of the exhibition. An information panel announcing the new work was attached to a tree beside the path that lead down to the beach.
